Meet Trinj
Trinj Interview with Bobbi Rathert:
TRINJ and I met along the riverbank of Tent City on a chilled March day. He wore an oversized jacket without any shirt underneath but did not seem bothered by the low temperature. He told me that he had come to the United States from Laos when he was a boy, accompanied by his mother and other family members. I asked him about his life since he arrived in America and now as a resident of our local homeless population. "Being poor, yeah, not much better," he said. "Yeah, I have to survive, but barely surviving."
I asked Trinj if he knew what he would want if change could happen. "What would you like if you could have your life any way you chose?" I said. "I don't know," Trinj said, "Maybe to be like, just be like Superman, to be helpful like Superman, yeah. I won't be Superman and destroy things like you all do in Hollywood movies. But (I wanted) just love and support (for) me when I came over with my parents." It was apparent that Trinj’s life did not improve when he came to America from his war-torn country.
